ALLIANZ TYRONE INDOOR FOOTBALL

27 February 2023 (by admin)

Allianz Ireland Cuman na mBunscol CnmB Tír Eoghain held the East Tyrone heat of the annual 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football for Tyrone primary schools today in Clonoe Community Centre.

A total of 6 local schools competed for the honour of winning this heat. The format of the day’s play saw the teams being drawn into two sections.
An extremely high level of skill and sporting behaviour was exhibited from all involved.
Section ‘A’ comprised of 3 teams – St. Brigid’s Brocagh, Laghey and Annaghmore. Master Wylie's Laghey gave of their best on the day and put on good displays, doing themselves proud in the process. Annaghmore won both of their games playing some exciting attacking football in the process and made it through to the Semi-finals. They were followed by Master Paul O’Neill’s Brocagh boys, after finishing a close second.
Section ‘B’ saw Gaelscoil Uí Néill, Kingsisland and Primate Dixon drawn together.
Gaelscoil Uí Néill defeated Kingsisland and Primate Dixon to top the group as winners. That meant it was a sudden death game between Masters' O'Neill and McGarrity's Kingsisland team and Master McQuaid’s Primate Dixon boys with the losers making an early exit. Some excellent finishing by Conor Coney and robust defending from Aodhan Donnelly saw the Kingsisland boys race into an early lead which they maintained to finish runners up in the group and therefore join Gaelscoil in the semi Finals.
Our First semi was a goal fest for Kingsisland, getting the early goals and sending Master Hanna’s Annaghmore lads home earlier than expected. The Annaghmore boys had played a speedy attacking brand of football, but things just went the way for their opponents in this local parish derby with Kingsisland finishing 4-0 winners. In contrast, our second semi-final was a cagey affair in what was another local derby. The honours went to Gaelscoil defeating Brocagh 6-2.
The Final pitched Gaelscoil against Kingsisland in a repeat of the first Section B group game.
Both teams gave it everything to get the upper hand in a physical but fair game of football. And despite the best efforts of 'player of the tournament', Gaelscoil’s Seánan Kelly, the Kingsisland lads turned their earlier defeat into a convincing victory running out 6-1 winners.
Jubilant scenes greeted the final whistle as the Kingsisland lads, sporting their new school jerseys, sponsored by Rolo Sports celebrated.
Kingsisland now go forward to represent the Coalisland/Clonoe schools in the Tyrone County finals to be held later this month in Omagh.
We extend our gratitude to Martin Devlin (Referee) for his expert officiating and to our Cumann na mBunscol officers for helping ensure the successful running of this event.
What a wonderful day’s football – bring on the county final!
