School Facilities

St. John’s is in the very fortunate position of having a large school premises and spacious outdoor playing areas. The school is situated in a safe, secure site and is separated from the main road by the large Church car park.

The main building contains three classrooms equipped with the latest computer technology and interactive whiteboards. Also contained within the main building are the secretary’s office, the principal’s office, staffroom, reading recovery room and a multi purpose dining hall.  We have a fully stocked central library.

We have a resource room used exclusively as a Reading Partnership room for one-to-one teaching of pupils with additional educational needs.

The school also has 8 mobile classrooms. One of the mobile classrooms,  is a fully equipped art room dedicated to teaching each class art.  

Outside we have 2 large playgrounds marked out for a variety of games including basketball, netball, soccer, Gaelic football, camogie and hurling.  Adjacent to the tarmac area we have a large grass football pitch. We have recently installed a state of the art 4G Pitch. We also have  an Adventure Trim Trail, a Multi-purpose Playpark and other large outdoor play equipment including creative Huts, and a large Basket swing with soft play surface.

At St. John’s we believe computer technology will play a very important role in the further of our pupils’ lives.  We currently have a ratio of one computer to every six pupils in the whole school. We have a dedicated Computer room  All classes are timetabled to receive ICT on a weekly basis.

Each classroom is equipped with Interactive Clevertouch Boards. We also have a data projection system in the assembly hall which is used for weekly assemblies and parent evenings. We have Applemac Notebook Computers which enable children to explore and manipulate Digital Imaging Technology.  In addition we have iPads, notebook computers and a computer suite consisting of laptop computers.
