TÍR EOGHAIN COUNTY CHAMPIONS

21st Mar 2025
For the first time in the history of St John's Primary School, our Primary 7 boys lifted the prestigious Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain Indoor County Title today, in Mid Ulster Sports Arena Cookstown. Over these past few years we have had some fantastic teams, who came so close, knocking on the door with 1 final and 2 semi-final appearances. But today the boys took it one step further and made everyone in school so proud with a display of true grit, skill and determination to emerge as the Primary School County Champions of Tír Eoghain. The finals brought the 9 section winners from across the whole county of Tyrone. After 3 gruelling encounters against St Mary's Stewartstown, St Colmcille's Carrickmore and St Oliver Plunkett's Beragh, the Kingsisland team qualified for the semi-final. In a thrilling, hard fought, end to end game against Section 1 winners St Patrick's Roan, and with very little to spare, the team made it through to the final, where they faced the winners of the other semi-final between Carrickmore and Galbally. In the final, against a very strong, powerful and skilful Galbally team, the Kingsisland lads fought for each other as if their lives depended on it. In what proved to be the toughest game of the day, the Kingsisland boys built up an early lead and, despite the best efforts of their opposition, put their heads, hands and bodies on the line to defend their goal. With some superb points and goals in reply, the lads emerged victorious by 4 points as the final whistle blew. The sheer emotion overwhelmed every pupil present, as they fell to the ground with tears of joy. Congratulations to Galbally for a fantastic final and to all participating teams for a great tournament and excellent sportsmanship. Next up for Kingsisland is a tilt at the Boys' Ulster Championship in Meadowbank Indoor Arena, Magherafelt. What a win! View more photos on Facebook
