Malachy Duffin Memorial Cup
11th Jun 2024
Today our P6 pupils made the short journey to St Joseph's College, Coalisland to take part in the Malachy Duffin Memorial Cup.
The boys and girls played in the group stages against Edendork and Primate Dixon II. With the girls drawing two and losing two, they finished runners up in their section. For the boys they won three and lost one, finishing joint top with Edendork. Both teams qualified for the Cup Semi Final.
In the Semi Final the girls played St. Brigid's Brocagh and despite putting in a gallant effort, they came out on the wrong side of the result. For our boys, it was Holy Family, Aughamullan in the Semi Finals — and after a superb team effort, the boys booked their place in the Final.
The Final was an exciting game against Edendork, as both teams had registered a victory against each other in the group stages. The Kingsisland Boys got the first score and after settling, they put their stamp firmly on the game running out worthy winners. It was amazing for the boys to be crowned the first winners of the Malachy Duffin Memorial Cup, a stalwart and massive figure in the St. Joseph's community.
A massive thank you to St. Joseph's College, Coalisland for the invitation and for the wonderful hospitality shown to all staff and pupils today. We all had a memorable day that the children will recall with fond memories as they look back on their Primary School days.
