EAMONN COLEMAN TOURNAMENT RUNNERS-UP

2nd May 2024
It was a great privilege for Kingsisland PS to be invited to the inaugural Eamonn Coleman Memorial 7-a-side football tournament today in Ballymaguigan, Co Derry. It was the first time Kingsisland have ever had the opportunity to compete against other schools from Antrim, Derry and Tyrone all situated along the shores of Lough Neagh. After 3 very competitive group games the Kingsisland boys topped their group following wins against New Row PS Castledawson, Annahorish PS Toomebridge and St Oliver Plunkett's PS Toome. As group winners, Kingsisland progressed to the A-Competition semi-final where they defeated St Mary's PS Bellaghy. In the final against host school St Trea's PS Ballymaguigan, Kingsisland raced into an early lead with some lovely points and a goal, taking a 5-point lead at half time. St Trea's threw everything at Kingsisland in the second half and despite some ferocious defending, Ballymaguigan managed to score a goal in the last minute followed by a winning point with the last kick of the game. A hard but very valuable lesson for the boys, with plenty more competitions still to come in May and June. Eamonn Coleman's son Gary was on hand to present the medals, and Derry coach Gavin Devlin was also in attendance bringing the Allianz National Division 1 League Cup and Sigerson Cup for the children to see. Many thanks to St Trea's PS for wonderful hospitality and a great day's football. View more photos on Facebook
